turning the pitch up makes a beat faster or makes the vocals faster and more high "pitched." Kanye does it on alot of his samples.

On turntables you have pitch controller where you can speed up or slow down the record you're playing. If you speed it up, record plays at higher pitch than original and lower pitch when you slow it down.
